Cleaning of names of both the entities and persons is done.

Data on companies that have high demat requests is downloaded from the CDSL website. This is in html format. The key information is converted into a database format. Cleaning of names of the entities is done.

Data is requested from all offices of Company Law Board. The data is received from some of
them in typed format. The key information-name of entity/person, date of order, defaults committed,
regulatory action taken etc. is entered into a database format. In the process, a large degree of
standardization is done. For example, the same regulatory action which is worded in several
different ways in CLB’s data is standardized. Cleaning of names both the entities and persons is done.

Data on housing finance companies is downloaded from NHB’s website, which is in html/word
format. The key information - name of entity, regulatory action taken etc. is entered into a

All press releases, Chairman’s orders, Member’s orders, Adjudicating Officers orders and SAT
orders available on SEBI’s website are first downloaded. The documents which relate to
watchoutinvestors are segregated. The key information-name of entity/person, date of order,
defaults committed, regulatory action taken etc. is entered into a database format. In the
process, a large degree of standardization is done. For example, the same regulatory action or
regulatory charge which is worded in several different ways in SEBI’s orders is standardized. Cleaning of names of both the
entities and persons is done.
Each press release is linked to Chairman’s/Member’s orders. In the process, it was discovered that there are several press releases for which no Chairman’s/Member’s orders are available on SEBI’s website. Moreover, there are several Chairman’s/Member’s orders for which no press release is hosted on SEBI’s website. Subsequently, the records are linked to SAT’s orders. Again, it was discovered that there are many missing SAT orders.
Sub-Brokers
Since the source is newpapers only, this database is not comprehensive.
Most of the orders of Securities Appellate Tribunal are posted on SEBI’s website. The available SAT orders have been linked to the appropriate SEBI Chairman’s/Member’s orders.
